DreamFest 2026: How The Hustle Lab Reimagined What a Festival Can Do for a City

When Quayshaun Williams of Much Better Studios approached The Hustle Lab with an idea, he didn't come with a request for a single event. He came with a vision for an entirely new kind of infrastructure, one built to activate an entire city's economy over the course of a week.

That vision became DreamFest 2026.

Rethinking the Festival Model

Traditionally, festivals follow a familiar formula: one location, one day or, at most, a few days in one location. DreamFest broke that mold entirely. As the brainchild of Quayshaun Williams, DreamFest was designed as a multi-day, multi-location event infrastructure built to activate and engage the city of Trenton, New Jersey through the partnership economy.

The Hustle Lab was brought on to implement the strategies and structures needed to bring that infrastructure to life.

Rather than one event trying to be everything to everyone, DreamFest built an ecosystem of creators to produce a full week of programming, all working toward a single mission: filling gaps in the city's economic ecosystem through partnerships and collaboration.

One Event, Seven Attractions, and Seven Problems Solved

Each DreamFest "attraction" was intentionally designed to tackle a distinct pain point facing the community:

  • DreamFest Social Hours & Pink Friday Party — Nightlife activities beyond the bar and club scene

  • DreamFest Dodgeball Showdown — Bringing digital communities into real-life experiences

  • DreamFest Flag Football Classic — An entry point for businesses and organizations to engage with customers, constituents, and community

  • DreamFest Night School Workshop Series — Encouraging skill-sharing and opportunity discovery among freelancers, entrepreneurs, and professionals

  • DreamFest #GetFitTrenton Challenge — Connecting community members to health and fitness resources already available in the city

  • DreamFest Community Day — Free, fun, and safe activities for the whole community

  • Trenton UEZ Restaurant Week — Driving exposure and foot traffic to brick-and-mortar food spots, funneling event energy directly into the local economy

Together, these attractions turned a single event into a citywide economic engine.

The Scale of the Undertaking

Delivering on this vision was no small feat. DreamFest required 18 individual events over the course of 5 weeks, with 10 of those events concentrated during DreamFest Week, July 13–19.

By the time it was all said and done, The Hustle Lab had bridged a remarkable range of industries, ecosystems, and individuals while working alongside more than 50 organizations, including both local and national partners. Event partners included the City of Trenton, We Built This City, Just Black Productions, New York Life Insurance Company (Princeton Sales Office), Wawa, and many others.

In just one event, DreamFest connected corporations, small businesses, nonprofits, influencers, and everyday community members in service of the same city.

A Reflection of The Hustle Lab's Core Values

The Hustle Lab operates on four core principles: purpose, passion, community, and connection. DreamFest wasn't just aligned with those values. It was the embodiment of them.

For The Hustle Lab’s founder, Akeya Fortson-Brown, DreamFest also marked a pivotal shift in her own business journey: the transition from providing exclusively digital services to delivering event production with a hybrid, digital and physical, impact. It's a shift rooted in her broader mission to build a world where people have the resources to turn their passions into purpose and their purpose into community impact.

“Events like DreamFest can generate a powerful spike in visibility, energy, and momentum for the city and the organizations participating in the event”, said Akeya. “But, momentum alone doesn't create sustainable change, infrastructure does”.

Following DreamFest, Akeya and The Hustle Lab plan to launch new programming designed to help Trenton's businesses and organizations use events and community-based marketing to grow their impact and revenue. The program will focus on building the operational infrastructure, reputation, and community backing it takes to turn marketing momentum into sustained success.

Official details will be made available to the public in September 2026.
